Description:

As stated on Nils' homepage, Nils' K1v "is a rompler that emulates a Kawai K1, a famous japanese classic from 1988." It's a cross-platform, VST-2.4 and VST3 sound synthesizer available for linux distros which utilize .deb or .rpm packages, in both 32 and 64-bit architectures.

As shown in the screenshots above (being used in the Carla plug-in host), Nils' K1v provides faithful representation of the original Kawai hardware synth. It offers an immense 946 single presets and 384 multipresets--all arranged in banks with a dedicated search function. Importing and exporting SysEx presets and banks from the hardware version is also provided. It can also function as a preset editor for the original synthesizer.

Nils' K1v, like the original, offers four "sources" for each patch. Available in the K1v are 256 waveforms plus 204 additive waveforms with 128 harmonics, as well as 52 PCM waveforms. Discrete frequency, DADSR envelope and velocity curve are provided for each source. Amplitude Modulation (AM) is available for sources 1-2 and 3-4. There is also a graphical vector section with joystick, one LFO and autobend control. In Multi mode, a total of eight single presets can be combined, offering rich sounds with a lot of movement.

An excellent audio-video demo of Nils' K1v is available on his homepage (see link below).
